FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you provide equipment?

Yes! If you need any equipment, it is provided except life jackets. This includes wakeboard, surfboard, and rope.

Do I need a Wakeboarding Boat to learn?

For wakeboarding, waterskiing, and foiling, you don’t need a wakeboarding-specific boat. I give lessons on deck boats, fishing boats, pontoon boats, and even jon boats! Once the rider starts progressing to more intermediate and advanced tricks, like jumping the wake and flips, then a wakeboarding-specific boat definitely helps.

For wakesurfing, a boat specifically designed for wakesurfing (i.e. inboard or forward drive) is necessary. Because the rider is so close to the back of the boat, you can’t surf behind an outboard or stern drive (inboard/outboard) for safety reasons. If you don’t have a boat, come out on my Axis A24!

Are you a certified Coach with Insurance?

Yes. I am certified and insured through USA Water Ski & Wake Sports. I have completed the following trainings: SafeSport, Concussion, Heat Illness. I am also an American Heart Association CPR & First Aid instructor and a SCDNR Boater Education instructor.

Is there a Minimum or Maximum Age to learn?

Definitely not! It all depends on the rider’s willingness and physical ability. I’ve given lessons from as young as 3 to as old as 83.

What’s that helmet thing I see everyone wearing?

That is BbTalkin Intercom! It’s a 2-way communication system that allows the rider and me to talk throughout the lesson. The helmet has waterproof speakers and a microphone attached, and I have a headset that allows me to give instruction in real time. It’s an absolute game-changer! Not only can I give immediate feedback and instruction in the moment, but when the rider falls, I can still give instruction so that when the boat circles around we are ready to continue rather than the boat having to stop and me giving instruction. This greatly increases instructional time and I’d say the rider progresses almost twice as fast using BbTalkin.

I have found that 1 hour per person is usually best. Typically, riders get tired after an hour of riding because we are going to continually progress throughout the lesson. Riders can split time, but they almost always want more time. If we get out there and you want to end the lesson early, then you will only pay for the time you use. You can also add more time when we get out there as long as I don’t have a lesson immediately after.
